Assisi is an ancient city located in central Italy. Its history dates back to around 1000 BC when the first settlements were made but the city is best known for its religious affiliations. Assisi is the birth place of Saint Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order which was founded in the year 1206. The city is well known because of this.
